The Crape Myrtle Festival began as a gathering of friends over 30 years ago in Wilmington, NC. The focus and drive of the gathering has grown so strong over the years that it is now the oldest AIDS-related fundraising entity in the Southeastern US.
The Crape Myrtle Festival is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that focusses on serving the community by raising money and awareness for persons living with, and the prevention of AIDS and/or HIV infection. In addition they selflessly provide financial assistance, outreach, and education for needs of the Triangle’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community. This is the 33rd year that the organization has held the Grand Gala. Over the years CMF has raised over $1,000,000 for the organizations it supports, fostered awareness and inspired hope for countless individuals throughout the community.
Last night was an amazing event full of great people, great food, amazing silent auction items and a spectacular show at the Duke Energy Center. In addition, my good friend (and all around great guy) Bill Donovan was honored with a well-deserved lifetime achievement award and an Emeritus position on the Board. It was an awesome night all around.
